mezzo-soprano
Mezzo-soprano Sarah Beaty has been hailed as “the model of bel canto clarity and brilliance” (Cleveland Classical). Sarah enjoys performing a diverse range of repertoire, including contemporary opera, chamber music, and with various ensembles such as In Mulieribus, Third Angle New Music, Cappella Romana, Resonance Ensemble, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and True Concord in Tucson, AZ. She has been a soloist with the LA Philharmonic, Portland Baroque Orchestra, Eugene Opera, Eugene Symphony, Delgani String Quartet, Orpheus PDX, and the Industry Opera in LA, where she has premiered multiple operas.
Although her passion is breathing life into new music by living composers, Sarah is also deeply inspired by early music. She co-founded a Hildegard ensemble in Los Angeles, and her interpretation of Hildegard’s songs and hymns was praised as “sung with blinding luminosity” (LA Times). She recently co-founded Trio Contique, which weaves together ancient and contemporary melodies. Sarah is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and teaches at Reed College, as well as maintains a private voice studio.
