Thomas Muehlenbeck-Pfotenhauer

Dr. Thomas Muehlenbeck-Pfotenhauer’s performance experience is extensive and varied, crossing many musical genres. In addition to regularly performing with Portland Baroque Orchestra, he has performed with numerous professional early music ensembles throughout North America, including Lyra Baroque Orchestra, Bach Society of Minnesota, La Grande Bande, Oregon Bach Festival, New York Collegium, Boston Baroque Orchestra, Upper Valley Baroque, Madison Bach Musicians, and Seattle Bach Festival.

Dr. Muehlenbeck-Pfotenhauer studied trumpet with Armando Ghitalla at the University of Michigan, completing a Master’s degree in 1993, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance from the University of Kansas. His study of the Baroque trumpet began with Kris Kwapis and continued with additional studies with Susan Williams. Dr. Muehlenbeck-Pfotenhauer held tenured teaching positions at the University of Minnesota Duluth, the University of Wyoming, and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He is currently retired from teaching but remains an active performer of the trumpet in all genres.
